Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock considered quitting social media after receiving racist abuse on a 'daily basis' and says players are forced to ignore messages because platforms have not 'put up enough of a fight'

Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock says he receives racist abuse on a 'daily basis' and admitted he has considered quitting social media.

The 21-year-old, who sealed a £22million move to the Magpies from Arsenal last week, said he continues to uses the platforms to maintain his connection with the 'wonderful fans' who support him.

But speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Willock said the abuse 'hurts a lot' and called on social media companies to do more to tackle the problem.

'Every day I get messages,' he said. 'Messages saying about my colour or different things that are disgusting, really.
