Newcastle have reportedly made a verbal approach for Borussia Dortmund teenager Youssoufa Moukoko as they look to beat Chelsea to his signature.
Moukoko is out of contract at Dortmund in the summer, and is now free to speak to European clubs ahead of a potential departure from the German club at the end of the season.
Chelsea have been linked with the 18-year-old, but they are not the only club interested as Newcastle have spoken to Dortmund about the prospect of Moukoko moving to St James' Park, according to the Evening Standard.
