Faustino Asprilla has backed Steve Bruce to stay on as Newcastle United manager after the club is taken over by a Saudi consortium.

The Premier League club are nearing a change of ownership after a £300million bid by a Saudi consortium was accepted by current owner Mike Ashley.

High profile managers such as Mauricio Pochettino and Max Allegri have been linked with the club in recent weeks, however Toon legend Asprilla told Sky Sports News that Bruce can lead Newcastle back to the Champions League.

'I think we have to keep Steve Bruce,' said Asprilla.
