Newcastle left in limbo over new contracts for stars like Matty Longstaff and Andy Carroll as £300m Saudi Arabia takeover deal drags on

Newcastle's current regime are having to consult the prospective new owners on any contract negotiations, complicating the futures of Matty Longstaff and Andy Carroll.

Sportsmail understands that, as part of the takeover process, managing director Lee Charnley must communicate financial dealings such as new contracts with the would-be buyers, delaying all business at St James' Park.

It means that if Longstaff - out of contract this month - does agree to the terms being put to him by Charnley, then permission to sign off on the deal must be sought from Amanda Staveley and her Saudi-backed consortium.
