Amanda Staveley has launched a £300million bid to buy Newcastle United, just days after Mike Ashley put the club up for sale.

Staveley is one of the City's most-active dealmakers, managing a vast £28billion pot of capital from the Middle East and China through the investment fund PCP Capital Partners.

PCP had been linked with a move for Liverpool, but have now moved to take over from Ashley who bought United in 2007 for £134m, according to the Daily Mail.

Staveley was spotted at St James' Park two weeks ago for the match with Liverpool, but she was not invited by any of the Newcastle hierarchy.
