Newcastle United clung on with just nine men for the final 17 minutes to win 3-2 in a thrilling encounter against Southampton.

The Magpies almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory after debutant Joe Willock put them ahead in the first half, before Miguel Almiron saw a shot deflect wickedly off Southampton's Jan Bednarek to go 2-0 up.

Takumi Minamino pulled one back before James Ward-Prowse scored a free-kick.
