Newcastle 2-1 Wigan: Matt Ritchie scores crucial second-half goal to ensure Rafa Benitez' side edge closer to Premier League promotion

Newcastle picked up a vital 2-1 victory on Saturday at St James' Park to edge them closer to Premier League promotion.

Dwight Gayle put Rafa Benitez' side ahead in the 18th minute thanks to a close range left-footed finish.

However, Michael Jacobs equalised at St James' Park in the 50th minute. But the scoring didn't last long as just seven minutes later, Matt Ritchie put the hosts in front again.
