Newcastle 2-1 Rayo Vallecano: Sean Longstaff's fourth-minute strike and Chris Wood's confident penalty give Eddie Howe's side a second win from two despite a Matt Targett own goal in mid-season friendly at St. James' Park

Newcastle recorded their second mid-season friendly victory in nine days after Sean Longstaff's early goal and Chris Wood's spot-kick handed Eddie Howe's side a 2-1 victory.

Longstaff needed only four minutes to break the deadlock after latching onto the end of Jacob Murphy's cross to fire the Magpies into the lead early on in the encounter.

But after a flying start to proceedings at St. James' Park, the second half began at a more pedestrian pace, before the hosts reasserted their authority - although Jamaal Lascelles almost left Nick Pope stranded in the 67th minute.
