Rafael Benitez has paid tribute to Steven Gerrard after he announced his retirement from professional football.
In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT’s Graham Courtney, the former Liverpool boss said the midfielder was one of the most complete players he had coached in his lengthy career and said he felt fortunate to have worked with him at Anfield.
Gerrard was Benitez’s captain during his six-year spell in charge of the Merseyside club and was the driving force behind the club’s sensational Champions League triumph in Istanbul in 2005 and their dramatic FA Cup triumph a year later.
