Freddy Shepherd, the former Newcastle United chairman, has welcomed the news Rafa Benitez is staying on as the club's manager.
Benitez had suggested he could quit this summer after leading the Magpies to the Championship title.
But the Spaniard has confirmed he will remain at St James' Park after holding positive talks with owner Mike Ashley.
