City investment manager Amanda Staveley lodges formal £300million bid for Newcastle United

Staveley is one of City's most-active dealmakers, managing a vast £28billion pot of capital from the Middle East and China through the investment fund PCP Capital Partners.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley declared his intention to sell the club in mid-October with estimates suggesting the Sports Direct chief would relinquish control for somewhere between £300-£450m.

And it now appears the sale has moved a step closer after Staveley’s formal offer.
