Mohamed Diame stood perfectly still, allowing the ball to loop off his ankle and over David Stockdale for Newcastle's equalising goal against Brighton before Ayoze Perez came off the bench to hit a dramatic late winner.
Glenn Murray was hauled down in the box following a corner and duly converted the spot kick, firing low to the right of Karl Darlow.
The visitors struggled to make the most of their opportunities until Diame somehow converted a scuffed shot over the keeper before Perez came on to sidefoot a winner and send the travelling fans into raptures.
