Yankees Trade Rumors: New York Remains Frontrunner To Land Gray If He's Traded

The New York Yankees are still in talks with the Oakland A's about acquiring Sonny Gray, and while talks have reportedly stalled between the two sides, they are still the favorites to land him, according to Mark Feinsand and Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

Talks between the two sides had stalled late in the week due to New York's unwillingness to part with either Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier, two of their top prospects, though Oakland is now willing to look at other prospects. The Yankees have remained "optimistic" that they can get a deal done.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are among the teams that are also heavily pursing Gray, but neither has shown a willingness to come close to meeting Oakland's asking price.

New York has also expressed interest in acquiring Yu Darvish and Justin Verlander, but Gray is their top target due to his contract. He can't become a free agent until after the 2019 season.

Gray is 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 16 starts this season.
