Yankees Rumors Roundup: Johnny Barbato Traded To Pirates And Matt Holliday Back Injury

The New York Yankees are as hot as any team in the majors, with seven straight wins. But the Yankees aren't going to sit around patting themselves on the back. They'll continue to try to find ways to improve the team, all while dealing with injuries. With that in mind, here are the latest Yankees news and rumors you need to know.

Yankees Ship Johnny Barbato To Pirates
After designating Barbato for assignment last week, the Yankees have found a taker for the right-handed pitcher.

The Pirates didn't need to make any moves to fit Barbato on the roster, as they have two open 40-man roster spots. Barbato was acquired from the Padres last year in the Shawn Kelley trade. However, the 24-year-old struggled in his time with the Yankees' last year.

Matt Holliday Fighting Back Injury
For those trying to figure out why Matt Holliday has been out of the lineup for the Yankees, manager Joe Girardi revealed Sunday night that Holiday is dealing with back stiffness.

"Much better today," Girardi said in a pre-game press conference. "He still feels a little bit. I'd be surprised if he's not a player for me tomorrow. I will see where he is as we go through the day, see if he's available to me. I think he wants to play but my fear is, if you still feel it and you aggravate it, you may be down for a week and that's what we don't want."

The Yankees play the White Sox at 7:05 p.m. ET tonight, so we'll see if Holliday is in the lineup. Given that Holiday is 37 years old, it's not totally unexpected that he's dealing with a minor injury.
