Yankees Rumors: New York Interested In Signing Alex Cobb This Offseason

The New York Yankees do not know if pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will be back with the team next season since he can opt out of his contract, and with CC Sabathia set to hit the open market, there's a good chance the Yankees could be trying to sign a starting pitcher this offseason.

Sonny Gray, Jordan Montgomery, and Luis Severino are known to be key cogs in New York's rotation next season, and they're hoping to add Alex Cobb to that group, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe.

Cobb should make out very well in free agency. One major league source indicated that the Orioles, Yankees, and Blue Jays are very interested, knowing Cobb is battle-tested in the AL East. But the interest in him should be widespread, including in the National League. Cobb is seen as a solid mid-rotation pitcher who won't be as costly as the perceived No. 1s and 2s.

Cobb is 11-10 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 121 strikeouts in 28 starts this season for the Tampa Bay Rays.

New York is currently four games up on the Minnesota Twins for the top wild-card spot and six games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. They're also just three games behind the Boston Red Sox for the AL East lead.
