Manager Search
The search for a new manager started on Wednesday and the first person to interview was Rob Thomson. He was the bench coach for Girardi for four seasons and the third base coach for six. Thomson is 54 years old and has worked for the Yankees for the past 28 years.Thomson is well respected and well liked by the Yankees players and organization.

Free Agency
The Yankees will lose some key players this offseason to free agency so replacing them will be important. Two big names that the Yankees have shown interest in are Shohei Otani and Yu Darvish.
1. Shohei Otani is a pitcher/hitter from Japan who will be a hot commodity this offseason. He will be leaving Japan as soon as possible to sign with a Major League team. Otani is a younger player and won't command a huge paycheck which will help the Yankees since there are teams to have more to spend. However, Otani would be able to make more money in a big market like New York with endorsements.
2. Yu Darvish is the best free agent pitcher on the market and will command a big salary. If the Yankees want to improve on last season they will need to add some pitching. If the Yankees are unsuccessful in signing Otani, they will go after Darvish even harder. Darvish might be too expensive for the Yankees who are trying to get under the luxury tax. If the price is right though don't be surprised to see the Yankees sign him.
With the Free Agency period starting on Monday it will be only a matter of time before the Yankees sign a big name player.

Cashman Speaks About Girardi Firing
Cashman stated on Tuesday in an hour-long interview that Joe Girardi and the Yankees should part ways due to "connectivity" with the clubhouse. He said Girardi didn't connect with the players and clubhouse well enough. The Yankees are in a youth movement and a new manager will be apart into their next phase with the young and talented Yankees.
Girardi denied all rumors that he didn't get along with players on the Yankees.
