Yankees Rumors: New York Favorite To Sign Dallas Keuchel, Contract Offer And Didi Gregorius Return

The New York Yankees rumors aren't stopping, especially as Dallas Keuchel appears closer than ever to finally signing with an MLB team this year. The Yankees are one of the favorites, with reports of a possible contract offer as well. Here are the latest Yankees Rumors and News on Keuchel and more injury updates.

Yankees Favorites For Keuchel?
With the 2019 MLB Draft underway, the signing of Dallas Keuchel won't result in the loss of a draft pick. And perhaps it's no surprise, but the Yankees are the apparent "favorite" to land Keuchel in the coming days, per MLB.com's Mark Feinsand

In addition, Feinsand reports Keuchel wants to play for the Yankees and is willing to shave his beard. All that points to the Yankees getting some pitching help for yet another playoff push.

There some risk in signing the former AL Cy Young winner, since he hasn't pitched in a real game all season. Still, he was 12-11 with a 3.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP last year. The real question is, how much will Keuchel cost the Yankees?

Possible Keuchel Contract?
Amid the latest on Keuchel, the New York Post has an update on what the Yankees are willing to offer the free agent pitcher. The Post says the Yankees don't want to offer anything more than a 1-year deal, for a prorated $17.9 million. That's obviously less than Keuchel was hoping for, but the market never became what he thought it would be. The Yankees would pay a significant amount of luxury tax if they sign him.

The Yankees, with an AL East-best 38-20 mark despite a rash of injuries, aren't in desperate need of pitching help (relative to others in the MLB). However, that doesn't mean they'd be making a mistake, because Keuchel should provide a boost. Luis Severino has not pitched this year due to injury, C.C. Sabathia has already headed to IL twice and James Paxton has a history of injuries. Domingo German has been a pleasant surprise this year, but he could/should be on an innings limit. Masahiro Tanaka has been solid this year, but J.A. Happ has not been.

Didi Gregorius Return?
The Yankees have had a silly amount of injuries this year, but it appears that shortstop Didi Gregorius is set to make a return. Manager Aaron Boone says that there's a "real chance" Gregorius will return for the Yankees' weekend series vs. the Cleveland Indians. The Yankees have been fine without Gregorius, as Gleyber Torres has handled the shortstop spot, with DJ LeMahieu at second and Gio Urshela surprising at third base. Still, Gregorius has hit a slash line of .277/.326/.486 with 52 homers and 173 RBIs in the last two seasons.
