Yankees Rumors And News Roundup: Trading Mark Teixeira, Promoting Gary Sanchez And More

With the MLB Trade Deadline over, the New York Yankees have turned their attention to the rest of the season. While the Hot Stove has cooled off substantially, there are still a few rumors rumblings and news tidbits around the club. Check out all the latest Yankees rumors and news below.

Mark Teixeira Waiver Trade?
Yes, the MLB Trade Deadline has passed, but there's still the waiver deadline on August 31st. The Yankees could try to make another deal or two, and ESPN's Buster Olney reports Mark Teixeira is one of the potential trade options during the waiver period. With Teixeira's $22 million salary, he'll easily make it through waivers. If a team suffers an injury at first, the Yankees could pick up the bulk of the tab left on Teixira's deal before he hits free agency this year. The Yankees likely won't get much back for him, since Teixeira is not hitting, but it would open up more playing time for the young guys.

Gary Sanchez Promoted
The Yankees have called up the first of several young players who should get more playing time this year in catcher Gary Sanchez.

Sanchez is likely to be in the lineup tonight against the Mets, either as the catcher or DH. The 23-year-old is the No. 5 prospect in the Yankees organization and once Brian McCann leaves (potential via trade), Sanchez should be the starter.

Others On The Verge Of A Call-Up?
The New York Times reports a few other top prospects could be getting promoted very soon.

Outfielders Aaron Judge and Tyler Austin could be on their way soon, General Manager Brian Cashman said. Others surely will be when rosters expand in September ... The Yankees’ farm system, barren for a decade, has suddenly become an intriguing place with an influx of talent that has given them seven players on Baseball America’s midseason list of top 100 prospects. One of them, outfielder Clint Frazier, arrived here in the Miller-to-the-Indians trade, along with reliever Ben Heller, who could be up with the Yankees this season.

Heller is ready to contribute soon, and might be the first of the traded prospects the Yankees added to get the call up. Frazier is top one in the farm system, but might not be ready at age 21. Judge, is the No. 4 prospect and one report has him coming up to the bigs in roughly two weeks. The Yankees likely won't contend this season, so it's time to throw the young guys to the fire and let them get key playing time.
