Yesterday, the New York Yankees and NYCFC announced a $1.4 million Distress Fund for day-of-game employees impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

The fund will help employees who were scheduled for cancelled games, have worked 100 hours last season and live in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania. The program will be used to help cover personal, family, living, and sadly, funeral costs for employees who are impacted by the virus.

Simply put, this plan makes me happy to be a Yankee fan. Sure, we go to the stadium to watch the players, but it is these employees, from the ticket office to the beer vendors, who have the greatest impact on my game-day experience. It is refreshing to see the Yankees, unlike many other teams, care about their family.
