J.A. Happ pitched into the sixth inning to pace a splendid pitching performance by the Yankees’ staff, which limited the Mariners to a single hit through eight innings and held on for a 3-1 victory on Thursday evening at Yankee Stadium.

Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle and Zack Britton fired scoreless frames out of the bullpen in advance of closer Aroldis Chapman, who allowed a Domingo Santana homer but recorded the final three outs to polish off the win.
