Yankees to commemorate Stonewall Riots

CHICAGO — The Yankees are in the process of planning events during the 2019 season in and out of Yankee Stadium that will commemorate the Stonewall Riots’ 50th anniversary, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

The Stonewall Riots are iconic in New York City history in the battle for gay rights. The gay community objected to police raiding Greenwich Village’s Stonewall Inn in 1969.

No dates have been cemented by the Yankees for events next season.

Previously, the Yankees have not held events or events that celebrate or honor gay rights. The Mets have held a Pride Night since 2016.
