Through the first 42 games of the Yankees’ 2017 season, almost all of their news has been good. Sure, there have been injuries, notably to closer Aroldis Chapman and to first baseman Greg Bird, and some underperformance, but those blips have been overshadowed by the Yankees’ bruising hitters, who lead the American League in runs, batting average, slugging and on-base percentage and who entered Monday second in the league in home runs.
Oh, and they also sit atop the American League East, and they maintained their momentum on Monday with a 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals, the first game of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium.
