Yankees resting All-Stars opens door for Breyvic Valera

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees are very diligent about getting players what they believe is proper rest regardless of whom the player is.

So, it wasn’t a shock All-Stars DJ LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres weren’t in the starting lineup for Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Rays, even if it was the final game before the All-Star break.

Aaron Boone didn’t start Aaron Judge and Gio Urshela on Thursday. Friday, Aaron Hicks and Gary Sanchez were on the bench for the first pitch. Saturday was Didi Gregorius’ turn to sit. Unlike Judge, Urshela, Hicks and Sanchez, Gregorius didn’t get into the game he didn’t start.
