When CC Sabathia walked off the Yankee Stadium mound Sunday in the third inning, there was a chance the veteran lefty had just thrown his final pitch of the 2015 season.
Considering Sabathia is 35 and experienced knee problems this season and in 2014, when he had surgery, it’s not out of the question the latest injury could lead to the end of a terrific career.
“Is it possible he doesn’t pitch the rest of the year? I think it’s a possibility,’’ Joe Girardi said of Sabathia, who was forced from Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Indians due to pain in his surgically cleaned-up right knee.
