The pain that forced Carlos Beltran from the Yankees’ game in Anaheim on June 30 is an oblique strain and it has landed him on the 15-day disabled list.
The injury comes just as the right fielder has shaken off a slow start to become more productive. In 23 June games Beltran hit .300 with three home runs and nine RBI. On the season he is batting .260 with seven homers and 30 RBI.
In the fifth inning on Tuesday against the Angels, Beltran felt something along his left side after hitting a ball foul. Manager Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donohue spoke to him before he convinced them he could go on with the at-bat.
