DENVER — It's official: Ike Davis will return to New York, except a different part.
The Yankees announced signing Davis, an ex-Mets prospect, to a major-league deal on Monday. To make room for Davis, the team also designated lefty pitcher Lane Somsen for assignment and demoted righty swingman Chad Green to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes/Barre.
Davis will likely share duties at first base, becoming the lefty compliment to the right-handed Rob Refsnyder, who's played just a handful of games at the position. Refsnyder is mainly a second baseman.
A slew of injuries forced the Yankees to add Davis, who they tried to sign in the spring before Texas swooped in.
