Yankees’ memorable night lacks champagne party — for now

In what might have been his final start at Yankee Stadium, CC Sabathia got a standing ovation from the crowd as he walked off the field and was greeted by his teammates in front of the dugout in an emotional scene.

What the retiring lefty couldn’t do, though, was help the Yankees clinch their first AL East title since 2012.

Instead, they will have to wait, as Sabathia didn’t make it out of the third inning in a 3-2 loss in which the Yankees were done in more by their bullpen and offense than anything else.

Giancarlo Stanton played his first game since June 25 and looked good both at the plate and in left field after being sidelined with a right knee sprain.
