Yankees have big decision to make at first base as free-agency begins

The New York Yankees were recently connected to Oakland Athletics’ first baseman Matt Olson in a potential trade scenario. Whether general manager Brian Cashman acts on the prospective deal is yet to be seen; Oakland is looking to relieve themselves of some bigger salary allocations.

The Yankees have the minor-league talent to acquire Olson, but they have several other routes they can travel down. One involves Anthony Rizzo, who the team traded for at the deadline this past season.

Rizzo played 49 games with the Bombers in 2021, accumulating a .249 average with eight homers and 21 RBIs.
