Yankees give banged-up Gio Urshela the night off

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Gio Urshela wasn’t in Yankees manager Aaron Boone’s lineup Wednesday night against right-hander Charlie Morton one game after getting hit on the left hand in Tuesday night’s loss. X-rays were negative.

“I would expect him to be back in there on Friday,’’ Boone said of Urshela, who is hitless in his last 18 at-bats. “Little bit of soreness, not a lot of swelling. He doesn’t seem to be too worried about it, so hopefully back in there Friday.’’

Gleyber Torres had a tough night. He was charged with a team-leading 20th error in the seventh, failed to glove a foul pop from the next batter and fouled a ball off the right side of his face in the ninth before striking out for the final out.
