Yankees Game 89: Home runs haunt Pineda in loss

The Yankees welcomed the rival Boston Red Sox to resume the second half of the season.

After going hitless through the first two innings, the Red Sox got to Michael Pineda in the third inning. With two outs in the third inning, Pineda fell behind in the count to Ryan Hanigan and on a 3-1 pitch, Hanigan took Pineda deep to left field for a solo home run. In the fifth inning, Pineda led off with a walk of Jackie Bradley. Falling behind in the count again, Pineda threw a 3-1 pitch and it was sent into the right field bleachers by Travis Shaw for a two-run home run, extending the Red Sox lead to three.
