Yankees’ Double-A team breaks up no-hitter with bunt in ninth

The New York Yankees’ Double-A team likely didn’t make any friends on the Hartford Yard Goats with this move.

Trenton Thunder’s Matt Lipka broke up a Yard Goats no-hitter with one out in the ninth inning on a bunt single. That play may be considered by some as breaking one of baseball’s unwritten rules, though the game — won 3-0 by the Yard Goats — was not a blowout.

The center fielder dropped down a bunt on the first pitch he saw from closer Ben Bowden and beat it out for a single.

Apparently Hartford wasn’t pleased with the play as both benches cleared at the end of the game, but there was no brawl.
