It didn’t quite have the drama of a dive into the stands against the Red Sox or a flip play in the postseason, but the Yankees kicked off Derek Jeter Night in style on Sunday with a comeback, 11-6 win over the Astros in the first game of a doubleheader in The Bronx.
The win allowed the Yankees to avoid a season-high fourth straight loss and was sparked by a three-run, go-ahead triple by the struggling Chase Headley in the bottom of the seventh.
Back-to-back one-out hits by Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury earlier in the inning put runners on second and third before Matt Holliday’s infield hit to short got the Yankees to within a run.
