Yankees-Alex Rodriguez homer payment dispute on hold

The disagreement between Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees over a $6-million payment he believes he is owed for tying Willie Mays on the all-time home run list has been put on hold.

Sources said Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association and the Yankees have agreed to waive the 45-day deadline for Rodriguez to file a grievance over the matter. The Associated Press first reported the story.

Rodriguez, who has 666 home runs, tied Mays for fourth place when he hit his 660th homer May 1 at Fenway Park. A separate marketing agreement to Rodriguez's 2007 contract called for that home run to trigger the first of several payments tied to milestone homers.
