Yankees adding veteran Chris Iannetta to catching mix

The Yankees are adding another catcher to the mix.

They have agreed to a minor-league deal with veteran Chris Iannetta, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. WFAN’s Sweeny Murti first reported a deal was close.

Iannetta, 36, will compete with Kyle Higashioka for the Yankees’ backup catcher spot behind Gary Sanchez after Austin Romine left to sign with the Tigers. The Yankees also have 39-year-old Erik Kratz, whom they signed to a minor-league deal last month.

Iannetta had a .728 OPS in 52 games last season for the Rockies, hitting six homers with 21 RBIs.
