Why Yankees aren’t thinking about making HR history

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Yankees offense is closing in on history, but they’d prefer not to give it much thought until they know where they’re playing the wild-card game on Wednesday.

With four more homers in Thursday’s 12-1 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field, the Yankees have 260 on the season, tied for the second most in MLB history with the 2005 Rangers.

Next up are the 1997 Mariners and their record 264 home runs. The Yankees have three games to get there.

In the meantime, they need just one more win — or an A’s loss — to ensure the AL wild-card game will be played at Yankee Stadium and not in Oakland.
