Why Aaron Boone is still playing it safe with Gary Sanchez

BALTIMORE — Yankees manager Boone initially wanted to give Gary Sanchez two days off this week. But after using the struggling catcher as designated hitter Wednesday night, the plan was altered. Boone figured a day and a half away from behind the plate would serve Sanchez well and he didn’t put him in Thursday’s lineup.

After the postponement, Boone likely will stick with the plan Friday night and return Sanchez to the lineup.

“I have been wanting to get Gary two in a row, the calf stuff he has had. He DHed [Wednesday night],’’ Boone said.
