The Windy City is not exactly blowing Manny Machado away. And yet, the White Sox are the only suitors standing at the moment.
A 26-year-old superstar, with four All-Stars nods to his name, 175 home runs and a career .822 OPS, has only one publicly known offer, and it’s not close to the $300 million he was believed to be seeking. Chicago’s offer on the table, according to ESPN: seven years and $175 million.
The deal — for $25 million a year — would not come close to the record $34.42 million average that Zack Greinke received in 2015 or the record $325 million contract Giancarlo Stanton signed in 2014, two benchmarks that observers wondered whether Machado and/or Bryce Harper would break this offseason.
