September 13, 1996: Yankees defeat Blue Jays 4-1

The Yankees have now won four straight after defeating the Blue Jays by a score of 4-1 tonight to open their series.

Andy Pettitte got the start, and hurled 7.2 innings of one-run ball. He struck out six en route to winning his 21st game of the year. The Yankees were held scoreless until the fifth inning when Tim Raines doubled home Derek Jeter and Mariano Duncan. Paul O’Neill followed that up with an RBI single, and the Yankees had a 3-0 lead.

Pettitte was able to relax, pitching with a small cushion.
