A former ace and a manager were the only things the Yankees lost Sunday.
As CC Sabathia walked off the mound after getting an inning-ending double play in the sixth inning against the Angels, he was barking loudly at plate umpire Dan Bellino.
Sabathia wasn’t alone in questioning Bellino’s strike zone, which was inconsistent all day, sometimes starting at the shoelaces. When Sabathia crossed the first-base line heading for the Yankees’ dugout, Bellino ejected him. Sabathia then advanced toward Bellino despite Chase Headley’s attempt to restrain the large lefty.
With Joe Girardi, who was already ejected, between Sabathia and Bellino, Sabathia got in the umpire’s grill with an avalanche of words.
