The New York Yankees have traded third baseman Chase Headley and right-hander Bryan Mitchell to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Jabari Blash, a source confirmed to ESPN's Andrew Marchand on Tuesday.
In addition, the Padres have agreed to pay the $13 million owed to Headley for the 2018 season, according to the reports.
The trade was first reported by the New York Post.
By trading Headley and his contract, the Yankees' projected payroll is currently in the $170 million range -- $27 million below the luxury tax threshold of $197 million.
