MLB did not offer revenue sharing. Yet, what it did propose Tuesday — a sliding scale of pay in which the richest players take the biggest hits — moved the union to describe its mood as disappointed and left the baseball season in a precarious spot.
What will be determined in the coming days is whether this was a first financial step toward a contentious give-and-take that will result in a deal in time to restart the season or whether this is 1994 again, with each side waiting for a blink from the other that never came and resulted in the cancellation of the World Series.
