‘Not a fun at-bat’: Yankees’ secret weapon picks up 1st MLB win

TORONTO — The Blue Jays were familiar with Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller.

But when Yankees manager Joe Girardi summoned right-hander Johnny Barbato to follow Masahiro Tanaka in the sixth inning Tuesday night, the home dugout was confused.

Barbato got three ground-ball outs around a two-out walk during his scoreless frame in his third big league game.

“First pitch was 95-96 mph,” Chris Colabello said after the Yankees’ 3-2 win. “Second pitch was a buckler and I usually don’t buckle on breaking balls. Next pitch ground ball to first. Three pitches. Not a fun at-bat.”

Barbato retired Troy Tulowitzki on a grounder to Chase Headley, got Colabello, walked Michael Saunders and induced Russell Martin to hit another grounder to Headley.
