New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels: Jhony Brito vs. Griffin Canning

Round 1 of the much-ballyhooed Aaron Judge vs. Shohei Ohtani matchup yesterday went in the two-way star’s favor, as the Angels downed the Yankees 5-2 behind Ohtani’s early homer. Perhaps unsurprisingly, neither starting pitcher made it out of the fourth inning, but José Suarez’s ability to pitch around six walks, coupled with Clarke Schmidt’s continued struggles, still left the Yankees in a 4-2 hole. The Bombers’ bullpen couldn’t make up for it despite allowing just one unearned run across 5.1 innings; that loss falls on the offense. The ‘pen could use a break today though, and their hopes for a rest hinge on the rookie Jhony Brito.
