Mitchell has broken toe, reportedly out 3 months

Bryan Mitchell has been diagnosed with a fractured left big toe and has been scheduled to see a specialist, with surgery considered to be a possibility.

Mitchell was also said to have Grade 3 turf toe. He sustained the injury while covering first base in Wednesday's game against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

"I knew I felt something, but I definitely didn't think it was this severe," Mitchell said.

Mitchell had already been told that the Yankees planned to carry him on the 25-man roster on the strength of his strong spring.
