NEW YORK -- Well before Bruce Maxwell took a knee and became the first MLB player to do so, there was another political battle of sorts waging in baseball. Only this isn't one Donald Trump is talking about, it's a little more inside baseball and it's only pause until someone else gets hurt.
Teams are weighing the pros and cons of extending the protective netting behind home plate. Currently, MLB requires only 30 feet of protective netting and recommends teams to extend it to the end of each dugout, but have not yet mandated it.
