The comparison immediately springs to his mind, but it takes some time to reach his mouth. He backs into his answer, caveats rushing out first.

When Double-A Trenton manager Pat Osborn sees Deivi Garcia, he’s reminded of one of the greatest pitchers of all time.

“His size, the way the balls come out,” Osborn, who managed Garcia last year at High-A Tampa, said this weekend. “The only name that comes to mind is Pedro Martinez.”

A Dominican shooting through the Yankees’ system at just 19, undersized at 5-foot-9, 163 pounds, anonymous looking until the pitch zips out and dances, collecting strikeouts like he’s pitching against batters half his age, not several years older.
