It’s an intriguing question for the Yankees to puzzle over as they sort through the feeble, disappointing end to their season. And the answer will reverberate through what they hope is a better 2016.
What to do with Greg Bird?
Bird, of course, is the sweet-swinging lefty who blossomed as the starting first baseman after Mark Teixeira was injured. Bird, 23 in November, showed admirable poise in the sizzle of the playoff chase and hit .261 with a .343 on-base percentage and .529 slugging. He hit 11 homers in 46 games − a pace that would give him 38 homers over a full season − and also knocked in 31 runs.
