The Yankees aren’t making changes just to the major league coaching staff.
Jay Bell, who has managed in the Yankees’ minor league system for the past three years, has left his position as manager at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
General manager Brian Cashman said via text that Bell “wants to pursue major league coaching positions.’’
Bell joined the Yankees’ organization in 2017 as the manager at Single-A Tampa. He moved to Double-A Trenton in 2018 and to SWB last season, with the teams finishing in first place each year.
The 53-year-old is famous for scoring the winning run for the Diamondbacks on Luis Gonzalez’s broken-bat single off Mariano Rivera in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.
