James Paxton to the IL as Yankees’ injury misery strikes back

Join the club, James Paxton. It’s not so exclusive, however.

The Yankees’ left-hander became the team’s 16th player to go on the injured list this season after leaving Friday night’s game following three innings with left knee inflammation.

Paxton underwent an MRI Saturday morning after complaining of soreness in his left knee the previous night, an issue that had been bothering him of late. Before the announcement, manager Aaron Boone hadn’t ruled out Paxton making his next scheduled start, and said there wasn’t swelling in the knee, only soreness.

“It was nagging me enough that I couldn’t execute my pitches,’’ Paxton said Friday night.
