NEW YORK — Don't expect to see Alex Rodriguez at first base any time soon.
Asked if Rodriguez might get a shot at the position when regular right fielder Carlos Beltran gets time at designated hitter to rest his 39-year-old body within the next few days, Yankees manager Joe Girardi didn't hesitate.
"No," Girardi said before Tuesday's game against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium. "Not right now."
Rodriguez decided to give the position another shot during the All-Star break. He has practiced there just twice and didn't head out to the position during Tuesday's warmups.
